Mr. David Merritt is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor, with over 37 years experience in the construction industry. His formative years were spent working as a site-based quantity surveyor, primarily for contractors, on construction and engineering projects in the United Kingdom and then East Africa. Over the last 27 years he has specialised in providing commercial consultancy services to the construction industry throughout Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific, including pre and post contract quantity surveying, claims management, preparation and evaluation, and dispute resolution services.
Mr. Merritt’s main sector experience includes commercial & residential, infrastructure, power generation, industrial and marine. He is also an experienced and testified quantum expert. His main area of technical expertise is in evaluating contractual claims, covering such subject matters as prolongation, disruption, acceleration, cost escalation, depreciation, head office overheads, and loss of profit claims. He has been crossed examined on multiple occasions in international arbitrations on measurement issues, valuation of work carried out, variations, prolongation and disruption. Mr. Merritt is masters qualified from Kings College, London and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors, and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building. He is also named in Who’s Who Legal Construction: Expert Witnesses in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
