Region in Focus – Perth Australia

BY: Charlotte Hobbs | IN: Articles

Introduction

Region in Focus is a CCi article series showcasing our global teams of of highly qualified delay, quantum, and technical professionals.

In this article we highlight the strong Perth, Australia team and their commercial presence in Western Australia.

As part of CCi’s expansion strategy in the Asia Pacific region and after several years of servicing our Western Australia (WA) clients from our Eastern States offices, it was time to open a Perth office!

Located in Parmelia House, Georges Terrace, in the heart of the Perth CBD, the CCi Perth office was established in August 2021 by Regional Director, Simon Russell. Simon is a highly experienced commercial manager and is supported by a team of specialist consultants, providing quantum, delay and technical expert services to the construction and insurance markets.

The CCi Perth team provide commercial and contract advisory services to project sponsors and Tier 1 organisations delivering some of the most significant projects across Western Australia.

At present, our commercial and contract advisory team are involved in projects in the infrastructure, mining and oil & gas sectors. A number of these projects involve FIFO (fly-in fly-out) and DIDO (drive-in drive-out) arrangements. FIFO and DIDO are common in Western Australia due to the remoteness of the projects, particularly in the resources sector.

The Western Australian Market

The current outlook is extremely positive for the Perth construction market with significant projects in the Building, Infrastructure, Mining and Oil & Gas sectors. The industry is boosted by global demand for natural resources such as iron ore and in particular, lithium, to service the electric car market.

The ease of border restrictions imposed by the state government due to the COVID-19 pandemic is welcome news to the industry, with the shortage of labour resources being a major problem in WA in recent times.

The State and Federal government stimulus package, an economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has resulted in significant investment in infrastructure across the state. The Public Transport Authority (PTA) leads the way with the METRONET suite of Projects which includes 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and up to 22 new rail stations. Main Roads Western Australia are delivering a wide range of road infrastructure projects across the state in both metro and regional locations.

Construction works in the Perth CBD includes the high-rise, mixed-use, commercial and residential buildings at the landmark waterfront development of Elizabeth Quay.

Mining continues to be the driving force in WA, with significant investment in iron ore, gold, copper and lithium mines.

The Future of CCi Perth

With our current workload and the positive outlook in the WA construction market we are currently looking to add to our growing team.
