Craig Finlay

Director

Craig Finlay has over 30 years of international experience as a chemical engineer in a variety of technical corporate governance roles, mainly in the upstream oil and gas sector. This includes 21 years with Schlumberger as their lead chemical engineer globally. He was presented with the Schlumberger Chairman’s Award for his contribution to an oil field reactivation project in Colombia.

In recent years, Craig has gained significant experience of major international arbitration cases, determined under ICC and UNCITRAL rules. The international disputes were centred in North Africa, Latin America, and the former Soviet Union. He has also advised on the resolution of domestic industrial disputes in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Craig directed an international due diligence study of the world’s largest-scale carbon capture and storage project, exceeding stakeholder expectations of quality, cost, and schedule. He developed Schlumberger’s process safety and integrity management system, rolling it out to all producing assets worldwide and achieving 80% compliance within two years. He also created, from scratch, Schlumberger’s competence assurance system for production facilities professionals, boosting job satisfaction and slashing attrition rates from 9% to 3%.

Craig’s key skills include hydrocarbon asset development, petroleum economics, project management, process safety management, process engineering, production optimisation, flow assurance, plant commissioning, and operations.
